Dehydration affects your health. Being properly hydrated helps with your general health such as digestion and improves your mental and physical performance, helping to reduce the risk of injury during activity.
Adults should drink 1.2 litres of water a day, more if you drink alcohol, tea, coffee, perform exercise or the weather is warm as fluid loss is increased.
Signs of dehydration
- Tiredness and fatigue.
- Dry mouth, dry eyes and lips.
- Dizziness and headaches.
- Dark coloured urine.
So if you experience that mid afternoon ‘slump’, don’t reach for a coffee and chocolate bar, drink a glass of water instead.
