What does a Chiropodist do?
A Chiropodist assesses the external foot problems of the skin and nails.
How can a Chiropodist help me?
Often the problem with skin is dues to excessive force in a certain area of the foot. This can be caused by foot shape, or something as simple as poorly fitting shoes or conditions such as hard skin, callouses, corns and ingrowing toenails.
Verrucae are also common and can be treated with cryotherapy freezing with liquid Nitrogen. Nail infections or Athlete’s Foot can also be treated. Surgery can also be performed for ingrowing toe nails.

Minor Chiropody Surgery
Treatment of Verrucae
The House Clinics chiropodist/podiatrist is a specialist in the South West using the most effective treatment for the removal of verrucae. The technique uses is based on stimulation of the immune system using local anaesthetic and needling technique. It is usually successful with a single treatment. If you have multiple verrucae, the oldest lesion is treated first and the theory behind this is that the treatment stimulates an immune response which will resolve all of the other sites infected by the verrucae virus.
Treatment of Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails are a specialist interest of our podiatrist. Problematic ingrown toenails can be treated with a simple nail surgery procedure under local anaesthetic. This can be done in one of two ways – by removing the problematic side of the nail, or removing the whole nail. A chemical is applied to the base of the nail to stop it from re-growing – giving a permanent solution.
